How to STOP gaining weight!

Some would say it’s inevitable. We are going to gain weight as we age. Just deal with it. I don’t know about you but I would feel much better about myself if I didn’t “Just deal with it” and learn how to I can better myself to STOP gaining weight!

I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read about how to LOSE weight, but how do we stop gaining it? First you must understand how the pounds pack on. They slowly creep up on us, but we can prevent it (and even lose weight) with these tips!

#1. Stop GIVING UP!! Realize that weight loss takes TIME and you need to give yourself weeks of avoiding the crap and you WILL see the results. It is not about an instant juice cleanse or diet fix. If you eat healthy for a week and don’t see results, so be it. Plan on a minimum of 4-6 weeks with any new plan to start and then alter after that if needed. Cells regenerate every 30 days, so how can you heal and rebuild yourself if you give up after the first couple weeks?

#2. Stop messing with your insulin! A steady stream of sugars turns into a steady stream of weight gain. (Think yogurt/banana in the morning, donut & latte snack, mac & cheese lunch, chips snack, etc.) Stabilize your blood sugar by eating a protein source at every meal and no simple carbohydrates alone (I teach this in my book "Food For You") This will set you on the path to correct how your body processes food and stop causing you to gain weight. Along with eating your proteins, adding in vegetables with quality fiber, vitamins and minerals will help your bodies digestion and rid it of toxins as well.

#3. Stop sneaking in processed treats and snacks. Eat something to fuel your body like whole food sources. One ingredient vegetables, fruits and grains will have your body thanking you later. Processed food contains a long list of ingredients which equal a bunch of stuff your body can’t process, so that gets stored as fat. Who eats the “serving size” anyways, lol? Not worth it.

#4. Ask yourself "Am I eating for Fun, or for Fuel"? Is what you're eating nutritious? Is it going to help you or harm you? Are you ready for an energetic workout at the gym or are you going to feel tired, sluggish and regret it later? Will it upset your stomach? Is it really worth it?

#5. Stop giving into your cravings! Sometimes you aren’t even hungry. Drink two glasses of water and wait 30 minutes. If your body insists on needing something else, choose to what’s right for you. You might not have wanted that treat as much as you thought. Perhaps it was the fact it was right in front of you, but had the temptation not been there you wouldn’t have even thought about it. Drink your water and chew a piece of gum if you need to take your mind off of it.

#6. Stop messing with your metabolism! Don’t skip breakfast, eat at random times of the day or eat a giant meal just to “get by.” Keep meals consistent, plan ahead of time and keep them sizeable with good nutrition. Plan for 4-6 meals a day to truly fuel yourself and get better results.

#7. Give yourself permission to say “NO Thanks.” No sugar or alcohol drinks, no slice of cake, no donuts in the break room, no to the free chips and bread they bring before the meals at restaurants, no to your friend’s cookies. Remember it’s YOUR body. We love our friends and family but it is OK (and they’ll respect you for it) to tell them “No Thanks, I’m working on my health and fitness goals right now.” See? That didn’t sound so bad. It’s you that will feel bad about it later, not them.
