Stop the Cravings!

Uh, I hate cravings! Just when I think I've overcome them then they come back again! That urge for something salty, or that need for something sweet. Maybe you just can't stop eating and you're bored.

What does that mean? What is your body trying to tell you?

Well, here are some things to think about to finally kick those cravings!

#1 Ask yourself "Am I really Hungry?" "Do I really need this"???? Chances are you don't. Your body is actually needing water believe it or not! Yes, this is true. Try drinking two glasses of 8 oz of water and waiting a half hour before you decide to take a bite. You're body might actually be thirsty and not hungry!

#2. Is your body deficient in something? Are you craving salt because you haven't had a lot of it recently? Are you craving meat because you're deficient in protein? Obviously there aren't deficiencies in sugar, but you could be missing out on some vital minerals, vitamins or nutrients. Are you properly supplementing? My guess is you aren't getting your recommended servings of fruits/veggies, etc. per day, so maybe some supplements wouldn't hurt.

#3. You're Tired. Yes, you heard me. If you didn't sleep well your body decides to raise it's cortisol level and then instead of being able to make up for it, it tricks you into thinking you need to eat. Usually its bad carbohydrates and snacks too. In this case you will be choosing the sugary morning breakfast options at the coffee shop and not the protein smoothie like you should be. Make it a habit to shut off electronics and hit the hay for the much needed 6-8 hour of sleep. Oh, and stress makes you crave foods as well. Relax with a book and get some sleep that night so you feel ready to take on the day tomorrow!

#4. You're Addicted! There's no getting away from this one. Sugar is just as addictive as cocaine if not worse. You've read about the Oreo study right? Well it's true. Our body LOVES sugar and loves more and more of it. If you've scarfed down some sugary treats, yogurt, juices, sodas, ice cream, pizza, pasta, etc. your body is used to consuming sugar. It's natural you would become addicted and want more of it.

This can be a bit of a process to reverse this. Two full weeks off of all sugars will stop the cravings for good. It's a great feeling. If you'd like help with this, message me and I'll share all of my secrets!

The next time you feel a craving, review these and see if one of these might be the answer. The more you know your body the better and healthier YOU will become!
